Definition
In the dynamics of post-traumatic stress, there is originally a sudden event generating adaptation stress which, if it does not subside, can become post-traumatic stress.
We usually talk about post-traumatic stress after 4 weeks. If in this space of time, the person concerned does not manage to take a step back from the event, if he does not manage to curb the emotional, his body enters into a physiological reaction.
Unlike animals, human beings, who are more fragile, are genetically programmed to "recover" from a difficult situation. This is probably the reason why he developed an intelligence. If there is no repair from this point of view, something is not being done correctly.
How to spot post-traumatic stress and what to do?
If for a person living with post-traumatic stress, the war is over from the point of view of history, it is not emotionally speaking. It will therefore be necessary to transform the wound into a scar, to archive the event after having purged it of all emotion.
Attempts at solutions
What does the person usually do themselves?
She tries to stop thinking about the event, to erase it from her memory. However, it is impossible and this impossibility weakens it even more. Because making the effort not to think about something is to think about it all the same.
She flees the scene, asks for help, victimizes herself or tries to make sense of the event. All this maintains the state in which it is.
What is the environment doing?
Those around her tell her to take a step back, to relax, not to “take her mind” even though she is totally unable to tame her emotion.
He may also deny the problem and refuse to see the signs of intense stress.
Or he acts too quickly or badly, does not set limits and thus feeds the situation.
The lack of response maintains a heavy atmosphere, contributes to a deterioration in the state of health of the person concerned, has an impact on the perception of the organization and even more directly on the team.
Figures show that stress is currently the cause of 50% of absenteeism in companies.
