"Getting out of a linear causality"

      Dr. Robert NEUBURGER
      Dr. Katharina ANGER

This 4- session module is intended for anyone interested in the systemic therapeutic model applied to complex systems: couple and family.

      Description

Couples therapy is very specific and complex in terms of reframing. When one of the parties comes alone, it generally places the responsibility for the difficulties on the other. It is therefore necessary to be very clear about the approach to the problem; either the person who consults presents a problem that is personal to him, or the problem concerns the couple and in this case, both parties must be present. In all cases, after explaining the situation, the therapist retains his freedom: to see one of the protagonists or to see both. It is he who decides.

Note that vision is generally causal and linear; the therapist must not fall into this trap. The questioning will make it possible to contextualize the difficulties through concrete situations and reveal the loop in which the couple has locked themselves.

This module offers tools to go through the problems of couples with a strategic eye, it gives participants a better understanding of the functioning of this type of problem and the position that the therapist must adopt in front of the protagonists.

      Objective of the module

      • Deepen the work on the request of the couple (or on the request of one of the components)
      • Understand and practice how the couple problem works and why the couple came to consult
      • Knowing how to give yourself the time to question yourself to open the field of everyone's perception
      • Redefine the problem with the couple
      • Work on the issue of violence within the couple
      • Investigate by questioning the benefit he derives from locking himself in a dysfunctional relationship
      • Identify what installed the symptom
